  Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, July 1 (Reporter Ding Ziyi) The Hong Kong SAR Government announced the list of honours in 2021 on July 1, and a total of 746 people were awarded honours and awards by the Chief Executive of the SAR. Several Hong Kong police officers who performed heroically during the "legislation-amending storm" and more than 400 people from all walks of life in Hong Kong who contributed to the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic were awarded honours or awards.

  This year, seven people were awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal, the highest honor in the Hong Kong SAR honours and awards system. They are Chief Justice Zhang Juneng of the Hong Kong SAR Court of Final Appeal, Secretary for Justice Zheng Ruohua of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Urban Renewal Authority Chung Kong Chow, Chairman of the New Democracy Party of Hong Kong Ye Shuyi, President of the Hong Kong Kowloon Association of Associations Chen Zhenbin, Chairman of the Xinhua Group of Hong Kong Cai Guanshen and Chairman of the Hong Kong General Association of China for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification Lu Wenduan.

  Eighteen people, including Yao Zhisheng, president of the Hong Kong Federation of China Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification, and Huang Guojian, honorary president of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions, won the gold bauhinia star. Twenty-two people, including Deng Yihai, Commissioner of Hong Kong Customs, and Zheng Xiangling, Chairman of the Association of Provincial CPPCC Members in Hong Kong, won the silver bauhinia star.

  In addition, Sergeant Sun Weiwei, who used his body to protect his colleagues, Police Officer Lei Junjie, who was still performing his duties after being cut by mobs, Superintendent Li Aoyou, who safely destroyed dangerous homemade explosives, and Superintendent Lu Bingshan, who safely dismantled homemade bombs, were awarded the Silver Medal of Courage.   Another 18 people won the Distinguished Medal of the Disciplined Forces and the Independent Commission Against Corruption, 41 people won the bronze bauhinia star, 49 people won the Honorary Medal of the Disciplined Forces and the Independent Commission Against Corruption, and 83 people won the Medal of Honor. 165 people were awarded the Chief Executive’s Certificate of Community Service and 335 people were awarded the Chief Executive’s Certificate of Public Service. Among them, more than 400 people from all walks of life contributed to the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.

  A spokesman for the SAR Government said that, as in 2020, in order to commend people from all walks of life for their contributions to the response to the epidemic and related work in the past year, many people were awarded the Chief Executive’s Certificate of Community Service and the Chief Executive’s Certificate of Public Service this year.

  This is the 24th list of honours awarded by the HKSAR since its return to the motherland. A spokesman for the SAR Government said that this year’s recipients of honours and awards came from different social strata and backgrounds, and they made great contributions to Hong Kong in different fields, benefiting all sectors of society. The Chief Executive sincerely thanks all the winners for their contributions to Hong Kong and plans to hold an award ceremony at Government House in November.
