＂Open-air Cinema＂ has been implemented for seven years to help Cambodian people understand China.

　　CCTV News:It has been seven years since the implementation of the social welfare activity "Open-air Cinema" in Cambodia by the Central Radio and Television General Station in 2016. Over the past seven years, the "Open-air Cinema" has shown more than 100 movies to more than 100,000 audiences in remote villages in Cambodia, which has been warmly welcomed by local people.

　　In December 2023, the rainy season in Cambodia has ended, and a joint screening team is about to set off again to show open-air movies in villages and towns in Cambodia. The members of this joint screening team come from the Asia-Africa Center of the Central Radio and Television General Station and the Film Bureau of the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Arts, and this activity, which is deeply loved and expected by the Cambodian people, is called "Open-air Cinema". The "Open-air Cinema" activity is a social welfare activity launched by the Phnom Penh Program Studio of the Asia-Africa Center of the General Desk. Since its implementation, with the support of the Embassy of China in Cambodia, China Film Corporation and the Film Bureau of Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Art, the screening team has traveled all over Cambodia’s 25 provinces and cities, went deep into Cambodia’s rural areas, schools, military camps and enterprises, and showed more than 100 films to more than 100,000 audiences in remote villages with excellent China films carefully translated and dubbed in Cambodian, which was unanimously welcomed by Cambodian government departments and grassroots people.

　　Kung Fu Yoga, Crossing the Yalu River, Wolf Warriors 2, detective chinatown and The Richest Man in Xihong City … China films with different themes let Cambodian audiences touch the historical rings and the pulse of the times, perceive the charm of Chinese culture, and empathize with the joys and sorrows of China people.

　　Everywhere the "open-air cinema" goes, it attracts many men, women and children to watch it. Even people who are on motorcycles or in private cars and are in a hurry can’t help but pick up their mobile phones and take pictures when passing by the screening venue. Cambodian people’s enthusiasm for the "open-air cinema" has moved the projectionist a lot and given them motivation, hoping to continue to bring joy to the Cambodian people with movies.

Xu Xiaoxia:I still remember that after we arrived in Siem Reap, we went to the home of a local tailor. Why did we visit him? It’s because this little tailor is our loyal audience. In 2016, when we were showing the movie, he rode a motorcycle for more than 20 kilometers from home to our screening site to see the movie. When it rained halfway, he just went to our site with a deep foot and a shallow foot, and with the mud after the rain. I am also very grateful that we have such loyal listeners, who have moved us a lot and given us a lot of motivation.

　　"Open-air cinemas" have gained a large number of loyal audiences all over Cambodia. What impressed the screening team was that a Cambodian girl not only said "Good evening, everyone" in Chinese, but also sang the China song "We are Different" at the interactive scene of "Open-air Cinema-the Third Excellent Film Tour between China and Cambodia". Such a strong emotional resonance has crossed the screen, the language and the national border, making the "open-air cinema" an important cultural brand to enhance the communication between the people of China and Cambodia.
