CCTV News:The reporter learned from Hubei Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve that up to now this year, 307 new members have been added here. At this point, the milu deer, which originated in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, has achieved results in returning to the Yangtze River.
In Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve, patrolman Wang Chuanjun and his colleagues are carrying out elk patrol on motorcycles. Where the elk are every day, whether there are casualties or not, and whether the protective net is intact are the focus of their attention.
Wang Chuanjun, Patrol Officer of Hubei Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve Management Office:Patrol 3-mdash every day; 4 times, each time is 1— 2 hours, the distance is basically 3-mdash; 5 kilometers. Walking in rainy days and riding motorcycles in sunny days. The main purpose of our patrol is to prevent elk from fleeing and people coming in from fishing and hunting.
Elk originated in the marshes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and then naturally spread.
Yi Hong Xin, Deputy Director of Hubei Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve Management Office:In 1993 and 1994, 64 milu deer were introduced to the nature reserve twice, and began to undergo wild training to gradually restore the wild population.
In the past 30 years, the number of elk in Shishou Nature Reserve has grown from 64 at first to 2,500 now, which are distributed in nine counties and two provinces in Jingjiang reach of the Yangtze River, all of which have achieved natural reproduction and restored their wild habits. There are abundant aquatic plants and abundant water resources in the reserve, and there are a large area of reeds and dry willow forests, which can provide a good hidden place for elk to give birth and shelter from the wind.
With the help of advanced technology, Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve in Hubei Province promotes the safety protection and scientific research monitoring of Elk to be more accurate and effective, and helps the population of Elk to expand continuously.
Early in the morning, Zhang Yuming, an engineer, came to No.3 with the patrolman and set up a long gun and a short gun. Not far away, hundreds of elk were playing in the water and taking a mud bath.
Daily patrol monitoring is an important work in the nature reserve, especially in the stages of elk horn shedding, velvet growing, reproduction, production and molting, which are all key monitoring periods. Through the monitoring of living habits, activities and environmental requirements of elk, it provides scientific basis for the protection, restoration and management of elk habitat.
UAV, infrared camera, high-point camera and ground patrol can not only know the living habits, activities, environmental needs and population changes of elk in time, but also grasp the environmental conditions and biodiversity of the reserve. At present, the third phase of informatization project is under construction in the reserve.
Yi Hong Xin, Deputy Director of Hubei Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve Management Office:First, the front-end perception system of video security and monitoring such as perimeter protection and environmental acquisition is built to realize automatic data acquisition; The second is to build a comprehensive supervision platform integrating resource management, security early warning, environmental monitoring, comprehensive business, elk and biodiversity monitoring and analysis to realize automatic early warning, intelligent monitoring and intelligent analysis.
With the help of advanced technology, there are 56 national first-class and second-class protected species recorded in the reserve. In recent years, black stork, oriental white stork, roe and other rare and endangered birds and mammals have been discovered successively, and the number is increasing.
With the continuous expansion of elk population, the carrying capacity of Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve in Hubei Province is insufficient. Therefore, the area of the reserve has been increased, which has ushered in a new space for the protection and development of elk.
At present, the annual natural growth rate of the elk population in Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve is 15%, and the population is about to reach the upper limit of the environmental capacity of the reserve, so it is urgent to expand the "home" for the elk.
Yi Hong Xin, Deputy Director of Hubei Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve Management Office:The number of elk population in the reserve is growing rapidly, and it is in a semi-free state, and the environmental capacity is limited, which has led to population restriction.
In order to solve the problem of insufficient capacity of the reserve, Shishou City transferred 8000 mu of land in the buffer zone of the reserve to the reserve. Due to long-term cultivation, the function of wetland is degraded, and elk can be put after ecological restoration is completed.
In the next step, Hubei Shishou Elk National Nature Reserve will focus on building a high-quality gene bank and provenance base of China Elk, scientifically carry out the prediction and early warning of Elk population, realize the transformation from quantity to quality, and improve the protection level.
